Slalom from Devil's Glenn

Mixed Bag today.

We had some OK results place wise today, but could have been MUCH better without a few careless mistakes!!!

Jimmy - 11th (Spent a little time on hip run #2)
Chad - 16th (Minor issues 1st run, FIS point score)
Danny - 18th (FIS point score!)
Andrew - 23rd (Stowe-away)
Rob - 34th (15th is or so 1st run, hike 2nd, still in the top 3rd)
Tim - DNF (Trouble out of the 1st flush, the broken hand didn't help)

All the guys are skiing really well!
looks like we're in for some interesting weather tomorrow (42-45deg).
Having now raced on the hill (STEEP) once will help & I am expecting greater performance from the guys tomorrow!!!

UPDATE:
Given the fact that we'll possibly be free to leave by 2pm tomorrow I am expecting to drive all the way home. If all goes well we should pull in around midnight. If for any reason we need to stop(or if I get tired) we will! We have enough beds at school for all to crash if we get in late; I will assess the situation of those wishing to drive home when we arrive. Any question of tiredness or lack of alertness and they will stay at school for the night! If we do stop somewhere we will probably arrive mid morning to noonish Saturday.

All for now

Wenesday 2/25

GS on Needles Eye. 7:30 morning sport.

Ohhhhh Canada! (#2)

GREAT DAY TODAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 of 6 in the top 20!
Jimmy & Rob back to back around 12th or so.
Tim & Chad close together around 18th or so.

Official results should be up on FIS later tonight.

VERY DIFFICULT 1st run set saw 51 DNF's
5 of the 6 here made it into the flip with excellent execution of the course report & strong skiing.

All 4 KMS guys skied great 2nd run, Tim had a small bobble up top & still threw down!
Rob & Jim had amazing & VERY EXCITING 2nd runs, with Rob taking the lead for a short time & Jimmy actually running over a few gates on his way down the hill.
(Jim now has a few BLEEDING gate marks on his backside as proof, it was VERY aggressive skiing!)

Without a doubt some of, if not the BEST skiing I've yet to see from these guys on race day!

We've got the day off tomorrow and are tentatively scheduled to take on GMVS at the local curling lanes. This will hopefully be followed by all you can eat ribs for $16usd.(19.95cdn)

Slaloms @ Devil's Glenn start on Thursday.

A quick correction to the last blog; 25 cent wing night is actually tonight! Last night we found the best Chinese food any of us had ever eaten, seriously, it was GREAT!

All for now

Training for Tuesday Feb 24

Training for Tuesday the 24th: Morning sport will be OFF we will be training GS on highline after advisory meetings. Then P.M sport for those not leaving.

For the J2's that are going to Stowe tomorrow we will be leaving right after training... Lon is driving up earlier for the meeting and will be bringing some of our luggage.... SO have all the gear that you dont need for training packed in Lons truck. We have 7 athletes in the van so it will be tight for luggage on the way there. The race entry fee is $200. We will be staying in the Stowe motel and we will bill you after for lodging. See you tomorrow

Ohhhhh Canada!

Hi All,

Sorry I've not yet blog'd, I keep getting kicked off for some reason ???

Well, we made it up here in a deathmarch like 13 hrs & change.
I'd like to thank Mother Nature, Canadian border security & Ontario's finest plow crew for helping us achieve such a long day on the road! We really could not have done it without your help!

Upon crossing into our Northern neighbor we were quite perplexed to find the 24 hr a day 7 day a week money exchange inexplicably CLOSED! As a result we had no Canadian money and were forced to try and use US currency until about mid day today!(As a sidebar, apparently banks & credit card companies assume any US cards used in Canada must be stolen & freeze the account just for good measure...) We've got it all sorted out & hopefully paying for the rest of our stay will go smoother!
(PS: TDbanknorth is the life saving exception!)

ON TO THE RACING!!!
I don't have results as they were not out yet when I left the area, but I'll be pretty close.

Jim "Hyimmy" Ryan laid down a stellar 1st and strong 2nd run to tie for 7th or 8th place!
Tim Spangler SLAID 1st run for 11th & had a strong 2nd to end up somewhere between 11 & 18!
(REALLY NICE JOB TIM, it was GREAT skiing!!!)

Danny Moore had a greta 1st run finishing 18th! 2nd run he took it a little deep on the steeps and ended up not finishing. Great skiing though, let's wait for tomorrow!

Robby V & Chad "Mr. Happy" Naro both had issues with the same gate 1st run but recovered and finished. Both started 2nd from further back (WAY back for Chad) & laid down 2nd runs that were consistent with guys who ended in the top 10-15!!! 2 of those tomorrow & we'll all be smiling!

Our MMSC Stowe-away (Andrew Keating) got a little wild 1st run after lett'n er go a touch early @ the bottom 1st run, but like the other 2 threw down a 2nd run time in the top group!

All for now, the guys are tuning & it's 25 cent chicken wing night at the local restaurant.

I'll try and update tomorrow about same time.

Monday

Looks like SG training is not going to happen. Due to 12-18 inches of snow in the forecast Gwood and I say Powdah Day!!!! However... Morning sport is still on at 7:30 for Dorm students. Day students drive safely we will not be mad if you are a bit late. But plan for a longer than normal drive and please be at school for a short meeting at 8 am.
Bring what-ever skis you want for tomorrow. Van leaves at 8:45am... No friends on a powder day... if your late that's your problem. :)

Also it sounds like Mike and the boys had one heck of a trip up to Canadia, but they made it. I'll let him update you all, he was having trouble logging into the blog last night... those issues should be resolved. Stay tuned.

Schedule for State SG and Whiteface travel plans

Van leaves at 6:50am! Bring extra clothes in case your gear gets wet.
Race skis should be brought to the top lodge and placed neatly under the deck. If you want your skis juiced then put a rubber band on your brakes... keep them strapped. Make darn sure your names are on your skis! We do not want to juice any non KMS/KSC athletes skis. If the above directions are not followed... NO JUICE FOR YOU!
Athletes that are into Whiteface GS races are: Rob Visconti, Matt Beers, Tyler Flinn.
Athletes not into Whiteface GS races, but are going anyway are: Tim Spangler, Jim Ryan, Danny Moore, Mark Grundy, Chad Naro.
The above mentioned guys should get ready tonight so that we can leave school by 3pm at the very latest... I would like to try and leave school by 2pm. It kinda depends on how the SG race goes time wise. As soon as Tyler Flinn is done his SG run We leave Okemo and head to KMS to pack up the van! So any of you guys that are driving to the race at Okemo bring GS skis and overnight gear too because you will probably not have time to go home to pack. We need to be super efficient with our time. If the plan changes during the day tomorrow I'll let you know.

We will roll the dice and try to get some guys in on the board tomorrow night. Last year the point cut off was 93 points USSA. It's always different year to year depending on how many Canadians and other foreign competitors enter the race. We never know until the board is called and all athletes have been represented.

So if you have points under 100 in GS you are on alert level ORANGE! That means you should be ready to leave school Wed night as soon as word gets to Mike. He will be driving the athletes that get into the race late... if any. Be ready regardless!

Athletes that are staying here at Killington for training should plan on training GS Thursday afternoon.

Results Update

Well I've been looking at our blog and trying to find race results... huh, we have not posted any. I guess we have just had our heads down and overlooked it. I'm terribly sorry for not updating the blog.

FEB 1st. Stratton GS: Rob Visconti 2nd place just .18 out of first!
Chad Naro 6th, Danny Moore 9th, Jim Ryan 10th.

Feb 4th Eastern Cup (FIS) Super-G: Danny Moore 15th, Jim Ryan 23rd, Chad Naro 26th, Matt Beers 30th. In the second Super-G Chad Naro placed 27th and Jim Ryan 30th.
Chaz Griffen was one of the only racers to improve their time on the second run! Most racers were 1 second slower but Chaz was a second faster! Nice adjustment Chaz!!!!

J1/Sr. Vermont State Championship SL: Chad Hedlund 1st, Jim Ryan 4th, Chad Naro 12th

J2 Vermont State Championship GS: Matt Beers 16th, Sam Bateman 17th, Kip Spangler 19th, Dylan Malone 25th.

Eastern Cup FISK Trophy SL (oldest running race in the US): Chad Hedlund 9th.

There are a lot of personal victories and improvements not mentioned here. All the boys deserve a pat on the back! They have been training hard and if the results are not there... be patient and keep fighting the good fight! Results will come in due time. Coaches are pleased with the effort and tenacity displayed by the team! There are still a lot of races coming up so stay tuned! State Championship SG TOMORROW! GO WOLF PACK!!!

Okemo SG race

Some of the guys that were in the race are not on this video due to various issues occurring on race day; camera freezes up. course report during an athletes run... or Parker just wasn't on the ball with his camera today. The clips are looped to give you a look at most of the run, for each of the athletes. Sorry to the guys I missed! If you want to watch video of sections I encourage you to come to the office for video review sometime tomorrow or in the near future.

Thursday Training

Just a reminder,

We are training SL in the afternoon, NO MORNING SPORT!
Vans will leave @ 12:45.

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Entry Fee

They did not cover what the entry fee would be for the race but I have an program that was sent to me it says $60... I'm guessing that is per race. So $120 would be the cost for both... Just in case I'm wrong wait until registration to write out the check.

Schedule for the Super-G races.

Yes I said races... they are going to run 2 Super-G races tomorrow! and no race on Thursday. Schedule for Thursday will be SL on Highline during normal training time... no morning sport.
Schedule for Wednesday: 7am depart from KMS
8:45am 9:00 window to get on the course for inspection.
9:30 course is closed
9:50 forerunners
10:00 start for run 1

Race 2
12-12:15 window to get on course for inspection.
12:15 course is closed
12:45 forerunners
1:00pm start.

Notes: Some of you guys with 990 points are in the snow seed. Look at the start list and see if you have a * next to your name. If you have a * next to your name that means you could potentially run ahead of the first seed guys. This is only for the first race! We will let you know if the race organizers decide to run the snow seed 1 hr prior to the start of the first race... that would be 9am. Be ready for the snow seed to run... and if it does not then no big deal... at least you will be ready.

For warm up you must go down a trail called "Jolly Green" this is a slow zone and will be monitored by patrol. So go slow there! Jolly Green will take you to "Wardance"... the normal race hill. Wardance is where you can open up the speed... remember to shut it down before you head into the intersecting trails at the bottom. Patrol will be there too. And they will be looking to pull bibs if warnings are not followed.

When you get off the chair at the top go to the right because if you go left towards the lodge there are a lot of rocks popping up... you do not want to ruin skis so go right after you get off the summit chair.

WAX CALL: HF7 if you have it otherwise LF7. Coaches will have additives for the overlay.

danny moore, jim ryan, tim spangler, chad naro, rob visconti, shane hedlund, matt beers, tyler flinn, sam scheu, anders sigourney, kip spangler, brendan bucksbaum, will jaye, dylan malone, zach stockman, chaz griffen are into the race. i will post schedule later because im updating this from phone and its slow. check back for schedule and wax call. -PG

Upcoming Schedule

There are a lot of possibilities this week. It is very important to be proactive with finding your individual schedule. The idea behind trying to get everyone into the FIS SG is to get the boys more runs on the hill. Our State championship SG is on that same hill. CLICK ON THE PHOTO... THAT WILL MAKE THE IMAGE BIGGER.
