There are no classes on Thursday so we will be taking full advantage of this by training a double session! Thursday morning at 7:45 Vans will head for the slopes. Athletes should have GS skis and all the necessary gear for GS training. We will have to see what the snow is like on Highline. If it does not look good for setting a course we will free ski in groups with coaches. We will leave the hill around 11:30 to come back to school for lunch. The lunch menu looks fabulous! At 12:45 we will head to the hill with SL gear and train SL on Highline. After SL training we hit the gym for some balance work and core.

Change to Schedule!
Boys, I went up on the hill today and there is no way we can get a good GS course on highline... So we are going to switch to SL for tomorrow morning. There is no morning sport Wed am but the vans leave at 7:45am lifts open at 8! Day students please arrive prior to departure time... get some breakfast and take KMS transportation. We have 3 vans now, so it should be a more comfortable ride. :) Vans 5,6,9 Hope everyone had a good day off today... Chad Naro... where are you?!!!!

Training 12/29
Today was a great day of GS... Super SL on highline. The boys worked a lot on tactical adjustments and how to move more efficiently through the turn. As you can see in Tim's video there was not much room for error today. Mike and I were very impressed by the boys today, all of them learned something and improved from run to run and most importantly we all had fun... coaches more so, maybe. Great job boys! Tomorrow is a day off... then we buckle down for a solid week of good training.
Stay tuned. -Coaches

Okemo race
Real tough day for a lot of the boys. The visibility was not too great on the lower part of the course, I'd compare it to trying to ski in a glass of skim milk... not as bad as skiing in 2% milk.
Congrats to Matt Beers finishing in the top ten and fighting a good fight. Will Jaye moved from 98th to 33rd overall and was 16th on the second run, nice work Will!! And our third KMS finisher was Dylan Malone placing 52.

Attitash Day 3 & 4
Hi All,
Sorry I didn't post last night, but I was dead tired so I went to bed!
I'll start by saying that we're NOT racing today. The forecast was for 12-20" more snow and windchill of -17. Due to this the team captains made the decision to postpone the race & hold it at a later date(probably attched to another FIS devo series elsewhere).
Yesterday was one of the silliest ski races I've ever seen by the time the 2nd run was over!!!
The day started out well, but by the start of 1st run snow was coming down VERY hard.
1st run went off ok, it was then decided to group slip & run the same course again rather than re set. In my opinion this was a VERY smart decision as we would not have gotten a 2nd run off with a re-set! Immediatelly after the start of 2nd run a big square HOLE developed on the top pitch. NOBODY was able to avoid it and you could not see it! We finished out the run, but as the hole continued to develop it became increasingly hard to seriously try and move up the field. I think the results by Jim, Rob & Danny were fantastic when you look at their 2nd run times. The fact that Danny put his 2nd time down from the back 10% of the field was SUPER, my course report to him was to slide/stivot as slow as needed above the hole, get over it somehow & then continue thru the fresh powder the rest of the way! Seriously! Jimmy hit the hole, went mildly airborne and shinned the next GS panel to get back on line, his time is VERY impressive!
Below are all the results, please realize there was little or NO human error involved in the DNF's today!
RESULTS
Jim - 5th (2nd fastest 2nd run!!!!!!!)
Rob - 21st (from bib 68 & with a good 2nd run time!)
Danny - 55th (GREAT 2nd run after some issues on the 1st, I would not ski his 2nd course for $1000...seriously!)
Chad - DNS/2 shoulder wasn't feeling good yesterday.
Mark - DNF Tyrolia heel piece is now in two pieces! I saw it, would have finished, binding exploded!
Mike - Great 1st run, hit the hole, binding on 19 came off immediately.
Shane - Hit the hole
Tim - Hit the hole
We'll be leaving Attitash @ 10AM or shortly there after, guessing 2.5 - 4hrs back to Killington today.

Attitash Day 2
Hi Again,
Some great racing today & some good results from the KMS boys, with a few fantastic single runs also! Snowed about 12-14 at the top of the hill so we had a little work getting it off this morning; but the field of guys did a GREAT job slipping and both courses were great!
1st GS day tomorrow, looks like we'll have good weather till about noonish if it holds out.
Looking like a pretty good dump up this way, so Monday could be in question... Let's hope it goes off without a hitch!
RESULTS:
Rob - 13th (5th fastest 2nd run & started bib # 72)
Jim - 16th (2 solid runs, definately more gas than yesterday!)
Tim - 17th (11th fastest 2nd run!)
Mark - 35th (Pretty good considering 1st run off course excursion)
Shane - 45th (All in all pretty solid, looking foeward to tomorrow!)
Mike - DNF (Absolutely GREAT 1st run (14th), small "line" issue into the only hairpin we covered in course report, skiing is fast though & I think he learned!)
Danny - DNF (Danny would like to use this space to thank Nordica for introducing abducted stance, aka"Duckfoot" technology into their equipment!)
Chad - DNF (Solid 1st run, Chad was caught off guard by the tricky set at the 2nd gate of the 2nd run, or the glare ice at the 2nd gate, or the soft powder at the 2nd gate, or the course marshall in the way of the 2nd gate, or the ...more to follow, not sure what happened, but Chad just didn't enjoy the courses 2nd turn!)
All for now, we'll do our best to rip'er in the GS tomorrow!

Attitash
Hi All,
Quick update from NH. I won't be able to upload video, but I'll do my best to get a quick report & results out night by night. Not a bad day today, with some great skiing along the way. The guys now have a better feel for the hill & a little more confidence going into tomorrow!!!
It's currently DUMPING outside, so we'll see in the morning what if anything will happen. Currently we're about 5-6 inches into a 4-6 inch initial forecast & it's only been snowing since about 2:30 or 3pm! We also picked up Shane for the remaining races, so our 2500 sq foot tuning room is getting a little tighter! (think we'll be ok)
If any of the guys have not gotten in contact yet, we're @ the
Attitash Grand Summit Hotel.
The phone number here is
(888) 554 - 1900
Jim, Chad, Tim & Danny are in room 103
Mike, Rob & Mark are in room 106
Shane will be in room 104
RESULTS:
C. Naro - 14th (10th 2nd run!)
M. Grundy - 21st (14th 2nd run!)
J. Ryan - 24th (Super strong skiing, planning on going a touch straighter next race!)
T. Spangler - 38th (put one down the hill, now we add a little more heat tomorrow!)
R. Visconti - 39th (from bib #73, nice little move up!)
M. Mitchell - 80th (BIG HIKE 2nd run / 46th 1st run from bib #80!)
D. Moore - DNF (great skiing 1st run until straddle about 1/2 way)
Best of luck to all the VT Cup boys @ Smugg's/Bromley & Chedlund @ the Eastern Cups this weekend.
All for now.

This Weekends GS Races
The first GS races are over and the boys skied very well. Chad Naro was second on Sunday. He won the second run but it was not enough to take the top spot. Jim Ryan put up a fast time on the second run as well he placed third for the run and tenth overall for the race. Other notable performances on the day were Mark Grundy ripping two fast runs and placing 11th. Rob Visconti placed 13th and Shane Hedlund was 14th.
Saturday at Okemo was a long cold day for the boys. Some of them had real tough conditions fro the second run. The light was real flat which made it hard to see the snow. Rob Visconti held nothing back and placed 8th overall. Chad Naro was second after the first run but had a big mistake on the second which moved him back to tenth overall. Rounding out the top 15 was Shane Hedlund.
Great Job boys!!!!

Today was a wash... literally. The rain and warmish temps took us to the bowling alley today. It did not make too much sense to get the boys wet/cold and compromise their health before these upcoming GS races. We're not getting soft on em... just want them to be healthy! :) Tomorrow we will train GS on highline in the afternoon. Morning sport is off for Thursday. PRAY for SNOW!!
Posted videos
Enjoy the posted videos, understand that it takes a while to upload them. So we will try and get everyone posted, but spread out over the season. We have some races this weekend so we will post more after those races.

The first slalom race of the season is over and done with! The KMS boys performed very well as a group. Some obviously better than others, but their day will come soon! It's a long season ahead! Congrats to Chad Hedlund for skiing away with a win on the home hill. Chad received a first place medal and a turkey for his solid performance. FYI coaches like turkey. Some other solid performaces included Rob Visconti in 8th place, Chad Naro in 17th, Shane Hedlund 25th, Mike Mitchell 26th and Mark Grundy 27th. The two Sams... Bateman and Scheu attacked from the back on the second run and put up some very respectable times. Good job!

Awesome day on the hill today. The kids skied a slalom drill course for the first 2 hrs and then we had them train a 20 gate SL until 11. The boys need some work but we are pleased with their skiing as a group. Tomorrow they will get on their GS skis for the first time this season and free ski for the afternoon. We welcome back Mike Mitchell, aka (Sasquatch) and our newest team member Will Jaye.
Last night we received a nice coating of snow and ice. The boys grabbed shovels and shoveled off the deck by the gym. Thanks gentlemen! And stay tuned. 5 days til race day!!!!

With the warm weather we had at the end of last week we only got one day of skiing in. They have been making snow the past few days so hopefully the mountain will be open by Friday. While we weren't on snow the guys have had some productive workouts. Today we had a fun day on the field playing some flag football and speedball. We were going to do sprint intervals at the Rutland track but we figured they were all too sore from a tough lift yesterday.

First round of physical testing is over
I think the boys are a little sore after all the testing... as they should be. Yesterday the boys did the Cooper Test (12 min run) and then we played a few games at the fields. After compiling all the test scores we can say that the boys tested have good upper body and lower body strength, very good foot speed and agility, excellent anaerobic capacity. As a group they need to pay more attention to core strength during the off season, there were a few excellent results but on the average the group needs to improve in this area. Overall the coaching staff is pleased with the effort and results for this testing session. We are in the process of tweaking our dryland program to improve the areas that need more attention. With that said, I think the boys have set them selves up to have a great season. If any parents wish to talk more about individual results please don't hesitate to call us or send an e-mail. Pray for cold weather and more snow!!!!

Physical Testing
Physical testing is going great. Jimmy Ryan successfully squatted 270% of his body weight 3 times.
Mark Grundy did 122 sit-ups in 2 min. Today we will test the athletes' explosive power with the vert jump, 10 jump and box jump. Tomorrow they will test their aerobic base with the 12 min run.
The boys seem to be in pretty good shape... but we'll see after the 3 days who is and who is not. :)
Coaches took a few runs on the mountain this morning, if the weather stays fair the mountain should be able to stay open. We're keeping our fingers crossed. Hitting the ground running could be a huge advantage for these boys.

Top: Group picture
Bottom: Shane Hedlund diving into oblivion.
No worries, we picked shane up at the bottom and he was fine :)
today was amazing, we arrived at the mountain around 6:50 for a 7:15 lift ride. Sunrise was breathtaking! The boys trained 5 runs of Slalom and we headed down the hill to get them rested. We plan to run the same early schedule for the rest of camp. The next few days will be longer ones so they need the rest now. Tomorrow's plan is to ski full length GS from the top of the mountain. The kids are ready, all have been progressing well, it should be a good test of skill to move up to a bit more challenging terrain. We have had our share of being snowed out of training but i am impressed with the tenacity and skill retention the group has demonstrated. And skiing in such soft snow is teaching them to be better students of the game!

August 5th... for us NZ update
WE are on hold due to drifting snow on the road to Mt. hutt. they are clearing the road and we are waiting for the go ahead call. Yesterday was a good day. It was snowing on the mountain but the visibility was good. The kids trained GS and they are making great progress. Even though we have not been in gates a whole lot the kids have free skied a lot and I believe in the long run it will pay off. We do not see this much snow in the east too often so it is good to have the kids skiing in this type of snow. They are learning to ski it all. The sun is shining so when the road opens we should get a great day in. Here are a few pictures from yesterday.

Good day for NZ
We had a slight delay this morning... we were supposed to get an early at 7 am but the mountain received 10cm of snow last night... like we need that!!! Anyway we got up to the hill at the normal opening time.(9am) And trained GS. It was rutty but very helpful for getting kids to move through the turn and use the rut efficiently. No pictures today... it was pretty foggy. The weather is supposed to clear up over the next few days so stay tuned.

New Zealand update
Yep, we are all still alive, sorry for the delay in updates. My computer is on the fritz. But I'm back online for now! We lost two days to the storm that hit. We free skied yesterday. The snow was heavy and wet. Not much powder to be had even though we received 1 meter of snow... 39.6 inches. Today we got back into gates and trained full length GS. The snow was a bit soft but its good to learn how to ski in all conditions. The boys are doing great!... I see improvement every day. This morning was an early start. The kids had to put chains on at 6:20am... it was pitch black and they could hardly see anything... Good thing we spent time training chain installation. On one of our days off snow the boys worked on their technique and speed of chain installation. That was a good time. :)
When we arrived at the hill this morning it was still dark. As we rode the chair to the top the sun was rising. I got some nice pictures, I'll post them later. This is quite a remarkable place. After training the boys went free skiing until noon. At 3:30 we have dryland, we have developed a new game since we have been here. I guess for now we'll call it rug-ball. It is a combination of soccer, ultimate Frisbee and touch football. Basically speed-ball, for those who know what that is, except we play with a rugby ball. We would like to come up with a better name for the game so if you have any ideas let us know. :) Its one of the best games I've seen played. It is a true test of hand, foot, eye coordination.

First day in Gates
Today was a great day... we could see the whole mountain and the snow was great. Coaches set a turn-shape course for the athletes and we saw a lot of improvement in most of the kids. We took about 5 runs then had a short break to watch video and have a snack. After the break they headed out again for 2-3 more runs in the course and 3 free ski runs to end on. Tomorrow the mountain is going to open early so we can get training in before the next storm rolls in. The boys have to get up around 5:45am for a 6:20 departure. Our plan is to continue the progression of GS over the next few days. Everyone is healthy and motivated, that makes my job much easier. Hope all is well back home I hear it has been a bit wet, so stay dry and stay tuned.

Emotional roller coaster of conditions
After an awesome day yesterday the clouds rolled back in on us today. I would say it was like skiing in a bowl of 2% milk. The visibility was real bad and you could not tell if you were moving or stopped. We tried to wait it out for a while but it did not clear up. Tomorrow we should be good to go. My guess is that the weather we had today was the tail end of the big storm that hit the North island. I heard on the news that it was fore casted to be one of the worst storms in 15 years... the kind of storm you read about! We'll keep pushing on to get some quality training in. All of these set back just mean less days off further into the camp. Here are a few pictures for you. Chaz was a real trooper diving in head first to take the chains off at the end of the day... Nice work!
Epic Powder!!!!
Ok, I know we are here to train, but.... the snow was too soft to set gates. :) So we skied the pow all day. The sun was out for most of the day and we skied until about 2:30. The only downfall to the day was long lift lines, the lifts had to stop frequently to be de-iced. I think the boys had an unforgettable day today. I had to drag most of them off the hill, so that is good. I have a little video to post as soon as I get it downloaded.

New Zealand update
Yesterday the weather was too much for the mountain to open, so we had a day off. Lon and I took the kids to Christchurch to play a game of laser tag. After laser tag we stopped in at the Royal New Zealand Air Force museum. The museum had full size restored planes and helicopters on display. There were a lot of old planes from WWI and some newer ones as well. We took a tour to see all the planes that were in the restoration phase but not yet on display. It was pretty neat, I think everyone was very impressed.
Today the 25th we are on hold until mid day, the mountain road is closed at this time. road workers are digging out the road and we should find out soon if we will be able to ski today. I'll keep you posted.

Day 3
Well, the storm has us in its grip. The foul weather does not mean foul skiing though! The boys continued working on balance today and actually the weather is a big help when it comes to doing these drills. The kids are forced to call upon their sense of feel and use vision less. Sounds a bit in left field maybe but the improvements were very encouraging to me. It looks as though the weather will clear up by Monday for sure, maybe sooner. We are planing to do some GS turn shape courses and drills tomorrow... weather permitting. For now everyone is healthy and eating good. Todays pit stop for chains was still about 5 min. :) enjoy the day!

Snow in July
Great second day on snow. We really hit the ground running today. Our pit crew of tire chain installers cut the time of installation down to just over five minuets! Still not good enough though, I think we can get the time down to under 3 min. As you can see from the pictures we had a bit of snow this morning. The lifts were only a few minuets late getting going and as the day went on the weather cleared up very nicely. The boys free skied for the first part of the morning and then we started our drill progression. The snow was tough to ski in so we will have to re-visit some of the drills we did today, in the days to come. I'm very pleased with most of the guys, they are in pretty good shape. We skied until 2pm today and they were all early for dryland. When the weather gets a bit better we will try and get a group picture to post, today was not the day for that. The boys have not called home yet I'm sure. After dryland I will encourage them yet again to get calling cards and touch base with you. Keep in mind it could be a late call, as I write this it is 11:35pm there at home and we just finished dryland.
Skiing
Today we got up to the hill after a long stop. Lon's chains for the van were too small for the tires. Luckily we had some bigger ones in our van. Some guys that work the chain up area helped us out too, so not a bad start to our day. Just a slow one. The boys spent their time on the hill working on a few individual drills and putting on some mileage. Yeah, I forgot my camera today so no pics... I'm sure you guys are tired of hearing that one. :) But I'll see what I can do over the next few days. This afternoon we had a great dryland session. We jogged to the fields, the boys did a few sprints and then we played speed ball with the girls. It looks as though we have some wet weather coming in, hopefully it doesn't get too bad. I'll keep you posted and have a good day.

New Zealand
We made it safely and are going skiing tomorrow! Everyone is pretty tired, we had to do a lot of running though airports with our gear. Everyone was great about it and payed attention. United and Air New Zealand held fights for us, one each. We were very lucky to make all the flights. Everyone received their luggage so no problems there. Hope all is well back home. my cell # does work here in case you need to reach me. I'm going to have the kids get phone cards tomorrow.

Training For Wednesday 3/19
Guys I have not received a hillspace approval for this week as of yet. We do have highline in the morning so be ready for SL training. Bring face bars and/or mouth guards for training... and of course all the other necessary training tools... Sharp skis DANNY! And morning sport is at 7:30. Vans leave for the hill at 8:45. I know it's late in the season and some of you are getting a little spring fever... but tighten your game up and be prepared, it ain't over yet!!!! Fight to the bitter end!!!
Jack Calhoun
Jack sounded pretty determined to get this up on the blog. So here it is. Our thanks goes out to all the Parents for their support this season. As coaches we love hearing great stories of how the team is supporting each other. Jack great insight on this past weekend thanks.
Dear Parker, Patrick and Torey -
It's Monday morning, and after the drive home from Middlebury last evening I've had a chance to reflect on the weekend's events.
Several words come to mind - patience, persistence, hard work, focus, strength of character, characters (yes, you've got a bunch of them), and achievement.
As the very proud Dad of Saturday's VT Cup Final slalom winner, I am especially grateful to all of you for the role you've had in Peter's life the past few winters. This weekend I saw firsthand Peter taste again for a moment the success that hard work realizes. While there is still much for him to learn, the experience he's gained from you all will serve him well long after his ski racing career has begun to wind down. For that I can only say thank you to each of you.
For me the pleasure of being at the race on Saturday was to see Peter thrill in his achievement. Of course collecting the hardware is great, but as a parent it was the big smile on Peter's face as he realized his accomplishment for that race.
Sunday provided an all together different kind of thrill as I stood at the bottom of the course at the Middlebury Snow Bowl. While I'm sure Peter is personally pleased with his result, what particularly struck me about the day was the overall sense of support the KMS athletes provided for one another as they came to the finish line. Whether it was directing one another's attention to the next teammate coming down the hill, or cheering enthusiastically as first one and then another had a great result - high fives, woops and slaps on the back seemed to be the order of the day. Each of your athletes really seemed to genuinely care about the others, and to have a word of encouragement, a friendly barb and a collective thrill in what they were doing.
As coaches I know that you may get to see this from time to time, but on race day perhaps not as much as your focus is on the task at hand, as one after another the boys leave the gate or race through the viewfinder on the video camera.
It was great to see this display of sportsmanship and support for each other among your athletes. It speaks volumes about how you coach the guys and also about the expectations that KMS imparts on their skiers. In a sport which focuses so much on individual accomplishment it is wonderful to observe that the boys haven't lost their perspective so much that they can't share in one another's accomplishments.
Job well done by all of you............many thanks for all that you do.
Keep feeding the wolves!!

Wolf Pack Attack!!!
The season is not over yet, but these last few races have made the coaches very proud. Peter winning the Vermont cup finals Slalom on the home hill will stick with him and the coaches for a while. And how about that Visconti kid. We knew he had it in him, but damn. Tim Spangler had a personal best result at Middlebury and was 3rd on the second run, beating a few of the college guys. Chad Hedlund got out of bed and clinched the Vermont Cup overall award by placing 8th in the GS. KMS had 5 guys place in the top 15. Mike Mitchell put two good runs together and finished 15th. Jim Ryan played the waiting game in the morning. He was not in the race but he hung in there, someone did not show up and he was allowed to get into the race. His answer to that was a first place finish for J2's. There were a few other great performances and personal bests at these races, so our congrats goes out to them as well. The hard work is paying off! Hopefully the boys remember this during the off season and hit the gym like raging wolves!!!

Gore Finals Sunday 3/9
The weather hasn't been very nice to us lately. First the DH was canceled and now both of the Super G's have been canceled. There was freezing rain and high winds here at gore. Meaning trees across roads, power lines down and no racing. The mountain didn't open today and they have canceled the super g for tomorrow. The fencing they have up is frozen and its not all that "up" so they aren't even going to try to run speed. They will however, power or not, run an extra slalom tomorrow (we might be hiking!). The cell reception is pretty bad here and most of us don't have any service where we are staying. The phones down at the hotel, but we're planning on going into Glens falls this afternoon and hopefully your son will call you and let you know how great of trip its been and whats going on. The rest of the week looks better for weather so I don't see us having anymore big issues.

Alright, you are looking at this stuff... I'll get some more pictures up during our short break. As for the anonymous comment on "LOL"... I know who you are... and we'll see who gets the last laugh!
State Super-G is postponed until Tuesday the 17th
Due to some bad weather coming in on Monday, Sugarbush has postponed the SG... again. Hopefully this time it will happen. Monday will be off for everyone and then Wednesday is off as well. We get back into training on Thursday. We will be training SL on Highline Thursday afternoon. The vans going to Sugarbush for the State SG will leave at 6:00 am on Tuesday the 19th. On days off you should not be skiing!! Relax, ride a bike, get on a swiss ball for balance. Active rest is what you guys need right now, not on snow time. Get some homework done, maybe even get ahead because a lot of you will be going on the road for a while. Give a call if you have any questions. 1-802-746-8087. Thats a home # so don't call too late... or else!!!
The J1 boys raced today in the State GS at Middlebury. Chad Hedlund squeezed into 13th position, Pete Calhoun finished 24, Tim Spangler 29 and Pat Sinnott was 39th. They all skied hard and deserve a day off. Stay tuned for more action to come!!!

Okemo FIS Super-G races
Today was another cold one at Okemo! The boys did pretty well. Danny Moore moved up 20 spots from his start position in both races. Kris Hopkins walked away with a win for the J2 age class and earned himself an Iron Wolf sticker for his helmet. Good job Hoppy!! Highlight of the day was for sure; the tenacity of Tyler Flinn. In the first race he went down on his hip and through a fence. He was trapped only for a moment between the two layered section of fence. He never lost sight of the finish line. He quickly crawled out from under the fence... with his skis still on. He asked the gate keeper if he could continue. Both the gate keeper and the chief of course yelled out yeah go for it. Tyler had not missed a gate so he was allowed to continue. This is not really standard operating protocol for a speed event, but none the less it is completely legal. Good fight Tyler, way to go. You showed that fence who was boss! In the second race Tyler shaved 50 seconds of his first run time... If there was an award for most improved... hands down Tyler would get it.
Tomorrow we will plan to leave school just after lunch for those traveling to Whiteface for the FIS development GS races. For those not going; follow schedule that is posted on the board outside the coaches office.

February Break
Well we had another Super-g postponed today, the FIS race at Okemo. The race organizers are confident they can get two races in tomorrow so hopefully we will not loose a race.
Our February break has been cut into because of the State super-g being rescheduled. It is now scheduled for Monday the 18th... right in the middle of our projected break time. So we are going to have training through Sunday. J1's will race on the 17th at Middlebury and the J2's will most likely train on Sunday. The plan now is to still take a break but cut it down to just Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Training will start up again on Thursday the 21st. We will keep you posted on the day to day changes and announcements. Sorry for the lull in blog postings, it has been a long hard charge at the races lately. Yeah and whats the deal, nobody ever leaves comments for us on the blog... whats up are you guys reading this stuff? We do like to hear from the parents! lol. Tomorrow the van for Okemo leaves at 7 am and training here at Killington starts after adviser meetings. No morning sport and guys not going to Okemo are going to train GS.

J1/SR State Sl Championship
The KMS boys had three in the top ten at the Vermont state Sl championship. The race was held on the face of Suicide Six in Woodstock Vermont. The only comments that could be risen out of Coach Parker Gray after the day was over were, "The legs feed the Wolf. The legs feed the Wolf!" With that said the entire team is looking forward, with hungry legs, to the Vermont State SG a week from Monday! Below are the specific placeing's.
First - Chad hedlund
Seventh - Peter Calhoun
Tenth - Patrick Sinnott
Hoper everyone is well!

Friday 2-8-08
Update on the J1-J2 State Super-G at Sugarbush. The state Super-G that was resceduled for this Sunday 2-11 has been postponed again to Monday 2-18.
Today the J2s had a interesting day at the state GS at Burke. We got off to a good start at 5:30am with only one person forgeting his boots, a road block in Woodstock, and me confusing washer fluid for brake fluid... Then I got my coffee. We get to Burke and push a ton of snow off the track and get going. It was a great race and it ran well. The course was soft and rough for the guys, but they toughed it out and most put two together. With all said and done, we got away with 3 in the top 15 and two broken thumbs. While the J2s were at Burke the J1s had some prep training at Suicide 6 for the State SL that will be held there tomorrow.

Downhill Racers
Today was the Vermont State Downhill Championship. Angie Lucian was the J2 women's champion and Kris Hopkins was the J2 Men's Champion. Both of them skied real well hitting speeds of 65 mph +. The J1 men swept the championship DH. Chad Hedlund 1st, Mike Mitchell 2nd and Pete Calhoun 3rd. Some of our other guys skied fast as well. Tim Spangler was 7th overall for Vermont and 4th J1. Rob Visconti was 10th overall for Vermont and 6th for J1's. The coaches are very pleased with the improvement and effort. We look forward to another good day tomorrow.
News From Killington
Hello All,
Training has been unbelievable here at Killington! Yesterday the group had full length GS on Skye Lark and today we trained SG on Super Star. Starting right off the top of Super Star, the first few turns were challenging to say the least. As soon as the athletes skied off of the first pitch they were confronted with the work road bump, which all of them handled very well. The guys made improvements today across the board.
The schedule for the next few days will be as follows:
Friday: Morning Sport - OFF
8:45 am - Leave for the mountain, GS skis
Afternoon Sport- Free Period (workout on the board)
Saturday: 6:50 am Depart KMS for Stratton GS (lifts open at 8:30 am)
Sunday: 7:30 am Depart KMS for Pico Sl
Monday: Day OFF
Good luck to the guys up at Sugarloaf!

Sugarloaf Day 1 Super-G
Cold DAY at the loaf! It was crazy today, at one point they shut down the lifts due to high winds and the kids had to ride up the hill in snow cats for inspection. Luckily after that the winds died down and the mountain re-opened the lifts. We all thought the race was going to be canceled. The guys kept their heads in the game. Chad Hedlund walked away with another win by about 7 tenths of a second. Jim Ryan was first J2 and 3rd overall. Pete C. 8th, Rob V. 10th, Tim S. 12th, Mark G. 14th, Danny M. 16th, Matt B. 17, Shane H. 18, Pat S. 20th, Sam S. 21, Tyler F. 24, Riley O. 28. Mike, Kris and Chad Naro went out and are fine, just some pilot error in the key sections. They are ready for DH tomorrow. Hope everyone is great back home stay tuned for more info. I would have posted a picture of jimmy but he missed awards... Ahh Jim!

Fun day at the races
I went to Stratton today with the J1 boys. Chad Hedlund walked away with a win, putting two good runs together. Tim Spangler was Fourth and Rob Visconti finished 13th. The other three boys had some trouble in the first run and will fight another day. Torey took the J2 boys to Stowe for a slalom; Danny Moore finished 13th and teammates Chad Naro, Shane Hedlund finished 20th and 24th. Great day for the KMS guys. Jimmy and Kris are headed up to Sugarloaf for the Eastern Cup GS races, good luck and Kick... ah... Butt! Congrats to Chad Hedlund for winning the first IRON WOLF sticker... well deserved!
Communication lines got a bit tangled with coaches going in different directions. Training tomorrow is OPTIONAL, No morning Sport and we will be free skiing on GS skis... We leave at 8:45 for those who want to go... Keep in mind the next day off is not until Sunday the 20th. Be honest with yourselves. Take the day off if you need it. HYDRATE!!!

Sunday Races
The plan for tomorrow: J1's are going to Stratton GS, van leaves 6:15 am. J2's are going to Stowe SL, van leaves 6:15am.
Today we had some great GS training on Bunny. The snow was nice and hard for a change. This week was a little screwy with the weather being so warm. One day going bowling and yesterday having to stay inside due to a big ice storm. The pics are from Thursday training on ungroomed ice moguls on lower skylark... a rough ride!
